One thing that is key in designing or arranging your landscaping is achieving a sense of proportion in relation to the house. A lower, longer house will look good with a narrower bed and shorter plantings. A tall house facade naturally wants some height and depth to ground it.
A client we worked with built a beautiful log-style home on the cleared portion of his extensive property. The house was gorgeous but the lack of landscaping left it feeling exposed and out of place. By extending the beds edges away from the house and building beds further out on the property, it was possible to bring the size of the house into proportion. As the trees and plants continue to mature they will provide balance and grounding.
